Choose Where Your Hashrate Mines: Our DATUM, Bitronics Solo, or Your Own Endpoint

When you buy hashrate on Cash to Hash, the mining machines aren't yours — but where that hashrate mines, and who constructs the blocks it works on, is your choice. Until now that choice lived mostly in documentation. Today it becomes the product: every new purchase asks you to pick one of three pool options.

Here's what each one actually means — including the fees, stated plainly.

First: what you're buying, in one paragraph

Cash to Hash buys hashrate on the marketplace and points it at a stratum endpoint you configure. Your stratum username is your Bitcoin address, and the pool pays your address directly. We never custody mining rewards — that was true from day one. What's new is that the destination is now a first-class choice, with presets we stand behind.

Pooled mining, stable and steady rewards. Receive sats to your own custody wallet, week after week.

The decentralization problem, in one minute

Every Bitcoin block starts as a template: a selection of transactions to include. Today, a handful of large pool operators construct the templates for most of the network's hashrate — meaning a small number of companies effectively decide which transactions get confirmed, even for miners they'll never meet. That's the soft centralization pressure OCEAN was built to counter.

DATUM (Decentralized Alternative Templates for Universal Mining) changes who builds the template: the gateway constructs block templates against its own Bitcoin node instead of accepting whatever the pool hands it. The hashrate still cooperates on OCEAN for steady payouts — but the template, the part that matters for Bitcoin's neutrality, is built by the gateway's operator.

Cash to Hash DATUM is our own DATUM gateway — a dedicated server running a Bitcoin node and datum_gateway, connected upstream to OCEAN. When you choose it, your purchased hashrate builds its blocks through our node, on templates we construct, rather than through a pool operator's template service.

What changes for you? Almost nothing — and that's the point

The procedure is identical to mining on OCEAN directly, just routed through our gateway:

  1. Enter your Bitcoin address as the worker (optionally bc1q…youraddress.myrig for a label).
  2. Your shares are paid directly to your address from the coinbase by OCEAN — no account, no signup, nothing custodied.
  3. Track your stats at ocean.xyz by pasting your address, exactly as before.

The fees, stated plainly

We'd rather be boringly clear than clever:

So let's be honest about the trade: with Cash to Hash DATUM you don't save money — you vote with your hashrate for decentralized block templates. If you want the lower fee and the most decentralization, run your own DATUM (Option 3 below) and pay only 1% total.

Option 2 — Bitronics (Solo)

Lottery mining. Huge variance, huge prizes.

Solo mining is the purest lottery in Bitcoin: no pool smoothing, no sharing. If your hashrate finds a block, you keep the entire block reward — currently 3.125 BTC plus fees. Bitronics runs a solo stratum that pays the coinbase directly to your address, with 0% fee, no account, and no custody.

The odds, honestly: at the current network hashrate (≈ 932 EH/s at publish), 1 PH/s running for a week has roughly a 1 in 925 chance of finding a block. Small probability, enormous payout. That's the deal, and we think it's a deal worth offering.

SOLO Groups: the lottery, but shared

The interesting part is what Bitronics calls a SOLO Group — details in their pool documentation:

A group trades jackpot size for jackpot frequency: your expected value is the same, but instead of a 1-in-925 shot at 3.125 BTC, the group hits blocks far more often and pays you your slice each time.

Our suggestion: if you want to try group mode, join the other Cash to Hash clients mining under the tag #cashtohash — everyone using that tag shares the same group. It's our little community lottery: every block found by the group is a win for everyone in it, paid straight to your address, proportional to your work. Lottery mining is more fun together.

Option 3 — Your own endpoint

The third option is the open door: point your hashrate at any stratum endpoint you choose — a public pool, your own DATUM or SV2 gateway, anything with a host and port.

Two reasons people take this door:

If you run a node already, this option was made for you.

The fee table, for the record

Where you mine Pool-side fee C2H fee Total Custody of rewards
OCEAN direct 2% — 2% None (coinbase-direct)
Cash to Hash DATUM 1% (OCEAN) 1% (maintenance) 2% None (coinbase-direct)
Your own DATUM on OCEAN 1% — 1% None (coinbase-direct)
Bitronics solo 0% — 0% None (coinbase-direct)
Bitronics SOLO Group 1% — 1% None (coinbase-direct)

In every single option, your mining rewards go straight from the coinbase to your Bitcoin address. The differences are fees, payout smoothing, and who builds the block template.

How to pick yours (30 seconds)

  1. Open your dashboard → Pools → Add pool.
  2. Click one of the three presets — Cash to Hash DATUM, Bitronics (Solo), or Your own endpoint — and fill in your worker name (your BTC address, with the group tag if you want a SOLO Group).
  3. Hit Test connection, then buy.

You can keep several saved pools and choose per order — steady OCEAN payouts for your weekly subscription, a Bitronics group for the fun money, your own node when you want full sovereignty.

Already mining on OCEAN through us? Make the switch.

If you bought hashrate with your pool set to OCEAN direct, this one is for you: point your next order at the Cash to Hash DATUM preset instead. It takes thirty seconds in your dashboard — add the preset, same Bitcoin address as always — and nothing else about your experience changes. Same procedure, same payouts to your address from the coinbase, same stats at ocean.xyz, same total fee.

What changes is on the other side: your hashrate stops renting a pool operator's block template and starts building blocks through our node. Every order you move is one more slice of the network mining on decentralized templates. Your next order — or your next subscription cycle — is the perfect moment to switch.

Why we're doing this

Cash to Hash exists so anyone can buy mining with a card and receive virgin bitcoin at their own address. But where that hashrate mines shapes Bitcoin itself — and it shapes this project too.

Mining on Cash to Hash DATUM does double duty. You push decentralization forward: every block template our gateway builds is one fewer decided by a handful of pool operators. And you push this project forward: the 1% maintenance fee funds the infrastructure that keeps the gateway fast, the platform improving, and more features like this one shipping. Community-funded, community-benefiting — the same spirit as the #cashtohash group on Bitronics, where every block found is a shared win.

We want our defaults to push the network in the right direction: more template builders, more non-custodial payouts, more people learning what solo mining actually is. These three options are our defaults now — and yes, we're mining on our own gateway too.

This post is for educational purposes only and is not financial advice. Mining rewards depend on network difficulty, pool luck, and hashrate market conditions; solo mining in particular may pay nothing for long periods. Fee figures reflect each pool's stated policy at the time of writing — always verify current terms on the pool's own site.
